Four linear pattern strain gages were applied inside a thin-walled carbon composite tube used in robotic arm to accurately measure mechanical parts. A challenging aspect of the application was bonding the strain gages at locations deep inside the tube while maintaining strain gage bond integrity and quality of the solder connections. Omegadyne engineering and strain gaging technicians worked together to develop custom fixturing to be used for the project.
